Naura-Mritunjay team scores a victory in the PUTA election for 9th consecutive time

The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) election results were declared on Tuesday, with the Naura-Mritunjay team scoring a victory for the ninth consecutive time. Out of the 19 candidates, the team was declared victorious on 16 seats.

Professor Amarjeet Naura from the Department of Biochemistry was eyeing a third consecutive term as president and was contesting against Ashok Kumar of the Hindi department and Parveen Goyal of UIET. Dr Mritunjay Kumar, assistant archivist, A C Joshi Library, and general secretary of the association, won his seat again.

“On behalf of the newly elected PUTA, we express our sincere gratitude towards the community for giving us a chance to serve them once again. We assure you that the PUTA would continue to work with the same zeal and commitment to take up the issues concerning the welfare of the community,” Naura said.

Highlighting the key achievements of the team, Naura shared that the team was successful in getting the disbursement of long-standing salary arrears, annual enhancement in UGC grant, recruitment of new faculty, record CAS promotions, implementation of promotion policy at Dental Institute, successful enrollment of teachers’ welfare scheme etc.

The vision for the future includes pensions for all, promotion of professors to senior professors under CAS, fixation of pay and promotion interviews for dental faculty, grant of PhD increments as per UGC regulations 2018, support for raising retirement age to 65 years, counting of full past service etc.

“We had appealed to our fellow teachers to vote for stability, progress, and a brighter future. We strive to work together to complete the unfinished tasks and take PUTA to new heights,” Naura added.
