Drone-flying and data collection activities have been completed across 15 sectors and five villages of Chandigarh on a pilot basis under the NAKSHA Programme, which upon implementation not only simplify property-related processes but also enhance transparency, reduce disputes and contribute to smarter, data-driven urban planning, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav informed all stakeholders at a review meeting on the implementation of the pilot project in the city on Friday.

It was informed at the meeting that substantial and time-bound progress had been achieved under the NAKSHA (National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) Programme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at transforming urban land governance through advanced geospatial mapping and digital data integration.

At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner discussed in detail the project’s phased implementation and progress.

Implemented in a systematic and time-bound manner, the Chandigarh Administration has achieved key milestones of this transformative project, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, efficiency and citizen-centric governance in land record management, it was informed.

It was informed that drone flying and data collection activities were successfully completed across all 15 sectors and five villages of Chandigarh on a pilot basis, and the high-resolution data collected during the exercise was processed to create accurate digital base maps. Building on this, the administration has advanced towards data validation, integration of ownership records, and generation of Urban Property Cards through field surveys.

This ongoing phase emphasises citizen verification, enabling property owners to confirm and update their details through a transparent, digital platform.

Once fully implemented, the NAKSHA Programme will provide numerous advantages to the citizens of Chandigarh, including comprehensive digital urban land records with GIS-based accuracy, reduction in land disputes and legal ambiguities, ensuring ease of living, faster and smarter urban planning supported by reliable digital data, simplified property transactions and easier access to institutional credit, enhanced transparency and accountability in governance, and a boost to real estate and infrastructure investment promoting ease of doing business.
