Music on the Move

As many as 11 bands will perform at three venues over two days as part of the Chalo music festival

It does seem like a tough task. How are they going to shift the audience from one venue to the other every day? Well,we did go over that little detail,and yes,it is a tall order,but we are ready, says Kunal Malhotra,who,under the banner of his music events company Worker Bee Productions,is all set to give Chandigarh a first-of-its-kind music festival,called Chalo. As the name suggests,its about music on the move,and has been designed accordingly. The festival will be held on August 17 and 18 at The Blue Blazer,Satva and Tao all three being restaurant-cum-lounges in Sector 26.

The concept is simple performances will take place at a venue for an hour,and after another hour,the action moves to the second venue,and culminates at the third. The gigs have been evenly timed,and the three venues are located within 500 yards of each other. Weve been working at it ever since we conceived the idea a year ago. Convincing sponsors and securing the venues,figuring out logistics and other technical details was challenging, says Yash Khullar,who works with Malhotra.

Set up three years ago by Malhotra,the Worker Bee Productions aims at charging up the music scene in the tri-city. While Malhotra is the former drummer of a local band,called I Quit,Khullar is a guitarist with Temple of Shadows. So,signing up bands for the festival was easy for them. Chalo is an ambitious project,and we want to make it an annual event,an inter-city event where audiences from Chandigarh can move to Manali and Delhi over three days in the future, says Malhotra.

The line-up for the Chandigarh event is interesting with underground and local talent. The ones to lookout for include instrumentalist Divtej Singh,EDM artiste Miracle Drugg,music band Swastik,solo performers Mihir Raina and Shubhank Sharma; Do Berozgaar,the man behind the Tung Tung song,and Dub Sharma. The festival promises a mix of blues,rock and electronic music.

Our company has been promoting underground music through its Ruff Sound System property and now,with Chalo, says Malhotra. A seasonal pass for Chalo allows access to all the venues and the single-venue passes are also available.
