Shruti Sadolikar has been acclaimed worldwide for her soulful rendition of classical music

It is often said that music is man’s way of connecting with God. It imparts a sense of peace that is incomparable to other materialistic pleasures. Shruti Sadolikar,a gifted singer,appreciates that quality in music. “If we do not value and preserve our art and culture,the day is not far when we shall be learning classical music from foreigners,” she says.

Born to a family of singers and musicians,Sadolikar was influenced by her father. “I trained under my father,Pandit Vamanrao Sadolikar,a vocalist and later took lessons from Pandit Gulubhai Jasdanwala,” she says. She has had formal training as well,having done her Masters in music.

Sadolikar has performed abroad in countries like UK,USA,Switzerland and Russia. In 1999,she composed the music and performed for Sangeet Tulsidas,a play that went on to win five awards and was performed in Marathi in Holland as part of the Theatre Festival.

Sadolikar officiates as the vice chancellor of Bhatkhande Music University,Lucknow. She has also been a guru in a Sangeet Research Academy,founded in the memory of her father to propagate art and culture. “We have to give what we have learnt,” she sums up,smiling.
