Most issues in Cong manifesto unfulfilled

With the elections due next year, the issues are once again coming into the limelight as political parties stress on them.

From improving the public transport system to providing better parking facilities and extension of lal dora and regularization of need based changes – there are several issues that have been part of the manifesto of the Congress and are yet to be fulfilled. With the elections due next year, the issues are once again coming into the limelight as political parties stress on them.

The improvement in the public transport system was one part of the manifesto. The city is facing a surge in the number of vehicles. While the land in the city is limited, the number of vehicles has been increasing. The Congress manifesto promised a better public transport system. The proposal to purchase new buses is in turmoil with no agreement on the buses to be purchased. The report for Metro Rail has been prepared, but no further progress has been made. While parking is posing a major problem, not many measures have been taken.

Regularisation of lal dora is another issue that has found a mention in the manifesto, but has not been fulfilled. A major part of the development of the villages has been done outside the lal dora. However, the construction cannot be regularized till a decision has been taken over the issue.

President of the city unit of Congress Sanjay Tandon says that most of the issues in the manifesto of the city have not been fulfilled. “Whether it is the issue of lal dora or a better public transport system, the demands of the people remain unresolved. It shows a complete lack of interest in the affairs of the city. Even after being in power for so many years if the Congress is unable to fulfill its promises it shows the party is not concerned for the city,” said Tandon.

Meanwhile Congress spokesperson Pardeep Chhabra says that the development budget that is received from the Centre has doubled in the past five years. The funds were distributed in different departments including education, engineering, etc. It is due to development of infrastructure that malls, hotels, etc have been set up here.

Chhabra adds,“Need-based changes have been regularised. Houses have been constructed under the rehabilitation scheme for those living in hutments. A large number of trains have been started from the city. The projects of the Municipal Corporation are functioning due to the funds that are now available.”
