Mohali Mayor extends Rs 50,000 aid to mother of murdered child’s kin in Kumbhra

Moved by the family’s plight, the Mayor handed over Rs 50,000 in financial assistance to victim Damanpreet’s mother after learning about the dilapidated condition of their house, which villagers said was at risk of collapsing.

Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu on Friday visited Mohali’s Kumbhra village, where a year ago two local children were brutally murdered reportedly by migrants living as paying guests.

Moved by the family’s plight, the Mayor handed over Rs 50,000 in financial assistance to victim Damanpreet’s mother after learning about the dilapidated condition of their house, which villagers said was at risk of collapsing.

“This family has already suffered a tremendous loss. My effort is to ensure they do not have to face any new hardship. Whatever further need arises, I will personally make every possible effort,” Sidhu said.

The Mayor learned of the family’s situation while being informed about a community feast (Bhandara) organised in memory of victims Damanpreet and Dilpreet. He emphasised that poor Punjabi families must be supported so they feel “safe and respected within the community.”

Local dignitaries Happy Malik, Jasmer Singh, and several others were present during the visit.
