Mohali gets 12 new taxi stands
Sidhu explained that while several taxi stands were already functioning across the city, many were unregulated.

In a major step towards streamlining public transport in Mohali, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has handed over licences for 12 new taxi stands. The initiative, announced at the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) office, is aimed at providing residents with better and more organised taxi services.
Sidhu explained that while several taxi stands were already functioning across the city, many were unregulated. “Now these stands have been regularised and fresh licences are being issued. Applications were pending for nearly two years and were finally cleared by the local government department,” he said.
The Mayor added that unauthorised encroachments had been removed and proper sites allocated in line with government policies. Each licensed stand will accommodate up to 10 taxis and operate strictly under municipal rules, ensuring discipline in the system.
With this development, Mohali will have a total of 26 licensed taxi stands — 14 regularised earlier and 12 newly approved. The move will also boost municipal revenue, with an annual fee of Rs 1.20 lakh per stand. Sidhu noted that around Rs 4–5 lakh has already been collected.
“With this decision, Mohali residents will benefit from safer, regulated, and law-abiding taxi services,” Sidhu affirmed.
