Mohali Dy Mayor urges GMADA to provide canal water to mega projects & villages

Bedi reminded the GMADA that when these projects were sanctioned, water-related charges were collected, making it the authority’s “responsibility to ensure supply of canal water at affordable rates.”

In his letter, Bedi highlighted that major projects including TDI, Aerocity, IT City, Sector 90-91, Sector 82, and several private developments approved by the GMADA are still deprived of canal water. In his letter, Bedi highlighted that major projects including TDI, Aerocity, IT City, Sector 90-91, Sector 82, and several private developments approved by the GMADA are still deprived of canal water. Mohali Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has sounded an urgent warning of a looming water crisis, writing to the Chief Administrator of the GMADA to demand immediate arrangements for canal water supply to the city’s expanding sectors, mega projects, and surrounding villages.

In his letter, Bedi highlighted that major projects including TDI, Aerocity, IT City, Sector 90-91, Sector 82, and several private developments approved by the GMADA are still deprived of canal water. Villages such as Sohana, Balongi, Bar Majra, Mauli, and Lakhnour remain without this basic facility as well. “By making planned use of the natural resources available in Kajauli, these areas can be provided canal water,” Bedi stated, stressing that this would ensure clean, quality water and prevent the over-exploitation of underground reserves.

Bedi reminded the GMADA that when these projects were sanctioned, water-related charges were collected, making it the authority’s “responsibility to ensure supply of canal water at affordable rates.”

Warning of a potential crisis, he added, “the coming summer could witness a severe water shortage. The GMADA must prioritise and start this project immediately so residents of Mohali and nearby villages are not left struggling for water.”

Calling it an investment in the city’s future, Bedi emphasised that timely action would be vital for sustainable development and the well-being of generations to come.
