Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh Tuesday flagged off two vehicles carrying 500 stationery kits and 500 hygienic sanitary kits for distribution in flood-affected areas.
Speaking to the media, he said, “As soon as we receive information about the specific requirements of affected families, we ensure that the necessary relief material is sent immediately. From animal fodder, medicines, tarpaulins, cots, mattresses, blankets, and sheets — much has already been dispatched. We do not keep count of what has been sent; for us, this is a moral responsibility, not charity. Our belief is in service, and we will continue to fulfil this responsibility in the coming days.”
The MLA expressed concern over the Centre’s apathy, saying Punjab had faced a massive disaster, yet the Union government was not releasing the much-needed funds. He emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government was ensuring that every announced relief measure reached the victims. He added that compensation cheques for flood-affected families would start reaching beneficiaries soon. Highlighting the recently launched Rangla Punjab Fund, Singh said that ministers and MLAs had been assigned specific duties to oversee its execution so that every need from rebuilding houses to meeting urgent essentials would be met. “Gradually, everything will fall back on track,” he said.
