A weeklong survey on the existing encroachments in the city has found maximum unauthorised structures in the periphery. At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Home Secretary on Wednesday,it was ordered that all encroachments be removed within a week.

The Senior Superintendent of Police was directed to provide the police force while all nodal officers were asked to coordinate with the respective sub divisional magistrates for assistance in the assignment. Several religious structures,at an early stage of construction, were also detected as unauthorised.

In cases where encroachments have resurfaced,Home Secretary Ram Niwas asked the officials concerned to explore the possibilities of registering criminal cases against such offenders.

It was also decided that all ongoing unauthorised constructions and encroachments would be reviewed on a regular basis every Wednesday.

Under the Periphery Control Act,land in the periphery comes in the purview of the Land Acquisition Officer. Ram Niwas instructed the officials that the officer concerned be made responsible for ensuring that no encroachment/unauthorised construction takes place on such land.
