After four reminders from the Higher Education department, the Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board has finally earmarked 10 acres in the vicinity of the temple for setting up of Post Graduate Sanskrit College, which could later be upgraded to a university.
The land is near Shri Laxmi Bhawan Dharamshala in the Mansa Devi complex. As proposed, the institution would be named after Mata Mansa Devi Mandir, and will provide under-graduate, post-graduate courses in Sanskrit for students, who can further undertake research in the language. There is also a proposal for starting yoga classes.
As per the proposal, the cost of construction and annual expenditure would be borne by the Shrine Board, while, the recurring expenditure on payment of faculties will be sought from the government. The Board owns a total of 105 acres in the Mansa Devi Complex and receives cash donation of about Rs 15 crore per annum. The guidelines issued by the Education department, Haryana and University Grants Commission (UGC) would be followed.

Highlighting that it would be an institution of great significance for Indian culture, heritage and dissemination of Sanskrit, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), V G Goel said, “It will be an institution of higher learning for those who want to learn Sanskrit, and will prepare pandits and pujaris of not only national, but international importance. Sanskrit is a language of immense significance globally.”
The proposal for setting up the university/college was announced by the BJP led government, after it came into power in Haryana in October, 2014. While the initial announcement was made by Education Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma when he visited the shrine early 2015, it was received in-principle approval from Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in his meeting with the shrine board in November 2015.
Khattar had announced that the Sanskrit university/ post-graduate college set up in the Mansa Devi Complex, to spread the use of the language by providing proper teaching and training to students.
The proposal will now be analysed by the Department of Higher Education, Haryana, on different scales, of finances, curriculum, strength of students, following which it will be tabled for final approval by the government. The Board has also proposed, that in the meantime, the classes could be started from Shri Laxmi Bhawan Dharamshala, which has 45 rooms and six hall, however, it is also subject to approval of the department.
