Man strangles wife to death for stopping him from drug abuse
Body stuffed in a bag and dumped into Ropar canal; husband and accomplice arrested

In a shocking case of domestic violence, a woman was murdered by her husband after she tried to stop him from consuming drugs. To dispose of the evidence, the accused stuffed her body into a bag and, with the help of a friend, dumped it into a canal in Ropar district. Police have now arrested both men and registered a murder case.
The accused have been identified as Kamjit Singh, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, Kharar, and his friend Sukhdeep Singh, alias Dimpy, a resident of Badala village. Both were taken into custody following a complaint filed by the victim’s brother.
According to the police complaint, Kuldeep Singh (34), a resident of Iyali Khurd, Ludhiana, who works at DMC Hospital, stated that his elder sister Raj Kaur married Kamjit Singh in 2023 following Sikh rituals. Soon after the marriage, Kamjit became addicted to liquor and other intoxicants. Raj Kaur often objected to his substance abuse, which frequently led to violent arguments.
Kuldeep told the police, “On August 10, my sister called our mother, Gurdeep Kaur. She was extremely scared during the call but suddenly the line got disconnected. After that, she never answered our calls.”
When Raj Kaur’s family could not reach her, Kuldeep and his mother visited her house in Kharar on August 20. On enquiring, Kamjit initially claimed that Raj Kaur had left home. Sensing foul play, the family pressed him further. Under sustained questioning, Kamjit confessed to strangling Raj Kaur with a T-shirt during a heated argument on August 13.
After killing her, he stuffed the body in a large bag and called his friend Sukhdeep Singh for help. Together, they transported the bag in a vehicle to Ropar and threw it into the Dugri Kotli canal to destroy evidence.
SHO Sunil Kumar said that the police with the help of divers recovered Raj Kaur’s body in their presence. A case of murder, destruction of evidence, providing false information, and criminal conspiracy has been registered against both accused under sections 103, 238, 3(5) of the BNS.
