Man seeks arrest of three cops who foisted wrong girl on him

A man has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking cancellation of bail application of three Punjab Police officials, who allegedly tried to close the case of his missing daughter by foisting on him a different girl.

A man has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking cancellation of bail application of three Punjab Police officials, who allegedly tried to close the case of his missing daughter by foisting on him a different girl.

The trio stand indicted in an inquiry conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police,Amritsar, but had got anticipatory bail from the high court. Seeking cancellation of their bail, the complainant Sonu Parshad,a resident of Amritsar, has filed an application. The court has asked the Punjab Police why the bail application of the trio – an inspector,an assistant sub-inspector and a constable – shall not be cancelled.

Earlier,in July this year, the high court had handed over the investigation of the case to Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, commandant of 82nd battalion of Punjab Armed Police and directed him to take necessary action against the errant police officers.

The Indian Express was the first to report when Parshad accused the Amritsar police of foisting him an unknown girl by projecting her as his missing daughter to settle a case of abduction. Parshad had accused the police officials of working under the influence of the people at whose place his daughter,Pooja, was working as a domestic help. Pooja is missing since 2009.

The police officials had denied the accusations saying,“The body structure of the girl has changed in two years, that is why the father was not been able to recognise his daughter”. A DNA report testified Parshad’s claim.

As demanded by the high court, the Punjab Police later filed a status report on the last date of hearing and submitted that the parents of Lallian – Bhagwan Saroop and Radha – the girl who was foisted on Sonu Parshad, hail from Bareily in Uttar Pradesh.

Bhagwan Saroop and Radha have recorded their statements with the Amritsar police demanding custody of their daughter, who is at Nari Niketan in Jalandhar. The girl,in April, had recorded her statement stating that Pooja’s employer in connivance with police officials had threatened her of dire consequences and offered her money to pose as Parshad’s missing daughter.
