Man held for raping four-year-old a psychopath?

Shambhu (28) was arrested from Burail on Friday after the victim’s mother complained to the police. On Saturday,he was booked for rape of the five-year-old girl. The accused allegedly “picked her up” from a park in Sector 15 on December 15.

Besides,he has been exploiting two other minor girls,but the cases were never reported,sources said.

On Saturday,he was produced in court and taken on three days police remand in last year’s case.

According to the case registered in the Sector-36 police station on December 15,a five-year-old girl was raped by an “unidentified person,who picked her up while she was playing in a park in Sector 35 B”.

The victim’s mother,a domestic help,had filed a complaint that she had left her daughter in the park,where she was raped. Medical examination of the victim at GMSH-16 had confirmed rape. The victim’s mother,who lives in Burail,had left the child with other children.

“During interrogation in the rape case of the four-year-old girl,the accused told us that had raped another minor girl in a park in December last year. He said he has been targeting minor girls. We will investigate his involvement in more rape cases of minors,” Investigating Officer (IO) Jaswinder Kaur said.

“The accused is a habitual offender. Incidentally,he raped the five-year-old girl on the night of December 14,and exactly a month later,he raped another minor on January 14,” the IO added.

The accused hails from West Bengal. He works as a housekeeper and is married. His wife lives in West Bengal.

Victim identifies accused

The four-year-old girl raped on Thursday has identified the accused,the police said. Upon seeing him,she reportedly cried aloud.

“She got scared on seeing him. She was lured by him with a chocolate and then raped on the terrace. We have scientific evidence to prove the charges,” a police officer said. After allegedly raping the victim,the accused had left the spot,leaving her bleeding.
