Police team at the Zirakpur encounter site. (Express photo) Gagandeep Singh alias Rajan, who was the main accused in the murder case of a scrap dealer who was shot dead in Harmilap Nagar in Zirakpur town of Punjab’s Mohali district, was left seriously wounded in a police encounter Friday.
Rajan was absconding ever since the murder on October 10.
The police were on Gagandeep Singh’s tail and Friday afternoon, he was traced in the Baltana area of Zirakpur. When the police party led by Zirakpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bikram Singh Brar went to arrest him, he opened fire at the police party.
In retaliatory fire, Gagandeep was shot and seriously wounded. He was being transported to the hospital till the time of filing this report.
At least 10 masked men on October 10 had attacked a scrap dealer Chotu and his two employees Ajay and Santosh Kumar in Harmilap Nagar in a robbery bid.
On October 11, Santosh Kumar was declared dead by the doctors. He received a gun shot in his head. Chotu and Ajay were injured too in the incident. Chotu was attacked with sharp edged weapons while Ajay had a bullet injury.
Chotu, who had come to the shop after taking a payment from Ambala, was at the shop when the incident had occurred.
