A couple of women designers are choosing to dress up men in finery
While the capital has made the most of the Van Heusen India Mens Week, closer home in Chandigarh, designer mens fashion has got a boost too. The ongoing Wedding Asia exhibition at the Taj throws up pleasant surprises with a bunch of young women designers bringing their just for men collections to town. If you happen to be a groom to be or the best man or perhaps the grooms best buddy, its reason enough to catch up with designer-duo Barkha and Sonzal. The two sisters are one of the few women designers in the country who design exclusively for men. We found the groomwear market fairly untapped and with men so conscious of style now,it felt right to put together collections just for men, says Barkha.
Elsewhere, making an impression with their range of club wear shirts complete with subtle Swarovski hints are designers Supriya Khemka and Richa Jain. Their label Cut X 2 or Cut Into Two brings in linen and cotton shirts styled keeping in mind the corporate who clubs over the weekend and entrepreneurs who are a hit on the social circuit. We both studied fashion formally but consciously chose to design a range of shirts for just men, says Khemka. The two started their label five years back and the positive
response has egged them on to take their work across the country. We use original Swarovski crystals and play around with styling, explains Jain. The shirts boast worked upon cuffs and collars in both neutral as well as dark shades. I wouldnt say the menswear brand is untapped but our focus is on offering a unique twist to an everyday shirt, sums up Khemka.
