After a number of civic body projects hit a roadblock following the withdrawal of signing authority from Municipal Council Vice-President,and acting president,B B Singhal, the Deputy Commissioner on Friday empowered the City magistrate to be the signing authority.
DC Pankaj Yadav took the decision as the MCs pending bills, including Rs 8 lakh for electricity, were nearing the deadline for want of a signing authority.
The decision was taken after MC Executive Officer (EO) O P Sihag conveyed to the Administration that the payment of electricity, telephone and other important bills were lying pending due to the ongoing problem. As the last date for the same was approaching fast, further delay could have invited a surcharge, said the DC.
He added that the powers were given to the City Magistrate,in accordance with Section 247 of the Haryana Municipal Act. The City Magistrate has also been directed to open a joint account with the EO for clearance of the pending bills, said the DC,adding that the present arrangement will continue till further orders are received from the Director Urban local bodies.
