Ludhiana: Joint team of MC, PPCB catches electroplating unit dumping acidic waste in sewer lines, process initiated to snap connection
MC said that the illegal activity came to fore during joint inspection done by the team of MC and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in Focal Point area.

(File) Continuing the drive against dumping of untreated waste in the sewer lines, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) caught an electroplating unit – JK International- dumping acidic waste in MC sewer lines in the Focal Point area, Monday.
MC said that the illegal activity came to fore during joint inspection done by the team of MC and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in Focal Point area.
The civic body officials stated that the waste of the electroplating industry has to be treated at the plant established by Ludhiana Effluent Treatment Society. But the owner of JK International was dumping the acidic waste in the MC sewer lines illegally. The meter installed at the outlet point of the unit was also lying defunct and no proper record has been maintained by the staff regarding the waste generated in the unit
The PPCB officials collected samples of the waste from the site and MC has commenced the process to snap the sewer connection of the unit.
MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal stated that regular inspections are being conducted to check dumping of untreated waste in sewer lines by industrial units. Apart from snapping the sewer connection, recommendations are also been made to Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to take strict action against those who have been caught dumping the untreated waste in sewer lines.
Recently MC had also disconnected the sewer connection of a dyeing unit in Focal Point phase 8 after untreated waste was being dumped from the unit in the MC sewer lines. Sent from my iPhone
