Three govt schools already exist in the area
The residents of Phase 3-A,Mohali,are up in arms against the state governments proposal to open a school in a park in the area. They are arguing that three government schools already exist in the area and the new facility will not find any takers.
Taking cognisance of the issue,a panel, constituted by Mohali Deputy Commissioner to take stock of the situation and headed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Raghbbeer Kaur Khaira, met the residents today.
On behalf of the residents, area councillor and Mohali Municipal Council senior vice-president Harman Preet Singh Prince pleaded before the panel that the residents will be deprived of a park to house a school, which was not required in the area.
He suggested that the school be opened in some other area, where it was required, while the existing open green space be left as it is in larger public interest.
While the SDM assured that he would recommend that the school not be opened in view of the sentiments of the area residents,Prince announced that he will take up the matter with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, through Punjab Cooperation Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh, requesting him to shelve the proposal.
