After-effects of shortage during paddy season continue
Overdrawal of power by Punjab in the previous paddy season continues to spell trouble for residents, with frequent cuts. The consumers in the state will have to suffer daily cuts up to four hours till mid-February.
This is because the Punjab State Electricity Board is still returning electricity to the states from where it had drawn it during the previous paddy season, under power banking. PSEB Chairman HS Brar today said the board was returning power taken from Himachal Pradesh,Uttaranchal,Jammu and Kashmir,Rajasthan,Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh during the previous paddy season.
Brar added that the power cuts would continue till February,as the board was returning 133 lakh units (LUs) of power daily under the power banking agreements.
These days, the state is facing shortage of about 160 lakh units of power daily. Board officials claimed that in December, the average power cuts were of three hours. For January, the duration has been increased to four hours.
