Light rain with thunder likely in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula today: IMD

As per the IMD’s five-day forecast, scattered rainfall activity will continue over the Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula region until Friday, with the possibility of isolated showers.

Light rain accompanied by thunder is expected to lash parts of the Tricity—Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula—along with adjoining areas later on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the humid conditions, as per the weather department.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Chandigarh centre issued the short-term forecast on Tuesday afternoon, cautioning residents about sudden changes in weather conditions.

According to the IMD’s five-day forecast, scattered rainfall activity will continue over the region until Friday, September 19, with the possibility of isolated showers on different days. For Tuesday, the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 31 degrees Celsius while the minimum is expected to be 24 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, light rainfall is likely at a few places in Chandigarh and its surroundings, with the maximum temperature hovering around the 31-degree Celsius mark. The intensity of rainfall may slightly increase on Thursday, when light rain is likely at isolated places, pushing the mercury to 33 degrees Celsius. Similar conditions are predicted for Friday, with light showers in isolated pockets and temperatures between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius.

From September 20 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to subside, and dry conditions are likely to prevail, with the maximum temperature climbing to 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

The IMD has not issued any weather warnings for the coming days, indicating that no severe weather activity is expected.

Earlier on Monday, Chandigarh had recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, while the minimum settled at 25.7 degrees Celsius, also one degree above normal, according to the Chandigarh weather observatory. Relative humidity levels were also high on Monday, with the maximum at 91 per cent and the minimum at 65 per cent. No rainfall was recorded on Monday.

The seasonal rainfall in Chandigarh has crossed 1,035.7 mm since June 1.
