Legal Services Day was celebrated by the District Legal Service Authority,Patiala,on Monday in the State College of Education.
Virender Kumar,District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman,District Legal Services Authority,Patiala,presided over the seminar.
He said the main objective of the day was to reaffirm the commitment,solidarity and support to disadvantaged people to make the legal process a means to social justice.
Kumar also explained the different provisions of the Legal Services Authority Act,1987.
He further added that in Patiala district,697 Lok Adalats have been held so far,in which 1,23,352 cases were taken up and 87,851 cases have been disposed of amicably.
Nearly 3,880 persons have been given free legal aid in Patiala.
Patiala SSP Ranbir Singh Khatra Harpreet Kaur Jiwan,additional District and sessions judge,
Rakesh Gupta,president,Patiala Bar Association,advocates H P Shukla and N S Sarwara and Reetu Jain,assistant district attorney,(Legal Services) also spoke on the occasion.
