Law univ bars 80 from taking exam

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala has reportedly refused to allow 80 of its students to appear in the final semester examinations due to short attendance.

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala has reportedly refused to allow 80 of its students to appear in the final semester examinations due to short attendance.

The second and third-year students of the five-year BA.LLB (Hons) course alleged that the university move comes as they had less than 70 per cent attendance. They,however,claimed that nearly half of them have represented the university in various competitions and thus,were not able to attend classes during such events.

They said they they had to pay Rs 1,000 for each re-appear exam in a subject.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paramjit Singh Jaswal,however,claimed that the university was only following norms.

“The Bar Council of India makes it mandatory that students should have a minimum of 70 per cent attendance. As per our university rules,one needs 85 per cent compulsory attendance to sit for exams,” Jaswal said.
