Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Saturday said he would move the Punjab Lokpal against the alleged misuse of 12 acres of prime government land worth Rs 100 crore by Bibi Jagir Kaur for her personal benefit. Addressing mediapersons here,Khaira said the land belongs to the Nagar Panchayat of Begowal in Kapurthala district.
However,Bibi Jagir Kaur rubbished the allegations saying that the land belongs to her. Khaira is making noises because of the forthcoming elections, she said.
Meanwhile,Khaira said that he had filed an RTI application and was informed that the land belongs to the Nagar Panchayat. He alleged that Bibi Jagir Kaur got a society registered in the name of Sant Prem Singh Education Society,of which her daughter Rajneet Kaur is the president and her son-in-law the secretary.
Khaira alleged that the Society also started Sant Prem Singh International School, and about 500 students were enrolled there. For running the school, the Society misused the staff, building and infrastructure of Sant Prem Singh Khalsa High School, which is functioning in approximately two acres of the total 12 acres of encroached land. On the remaining 10 acres, paddy has been planted, he said.
Sant Prem Singh Khalsa High School is an aided school, which receives 95 per cent grant in aid by the state government.
Khaira said that he had raised the issue in the Assembly in March this year. Responding to his queries and complaints,Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan had ordered an inquiry. (Based) on the facts of the inquiry,a notice has been issued to the management to shift SPS International School from the premises of SPS Khalsa High School within 90 days, otherwise the grant in aid to the school will be stopped by the department, the ministers reply reads.
