Lakhvir claims gold in 800 m

Lakhvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur bagged gold in 800 metre event after clocking 2:17.31 seconds on the inaugural day of Punjab State Women Games.

Lakhvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur bagged gold in 800 metre event after clocking 2:17.31 seconds on the inaugural day of Punjab State Women Games. Iqbal Kaur,also from Hoshiarpur,completed the race in 2:17.99 seconds,while Sukhjit Kaur of Bathinda finished third with a timing of 2:18.36 seconds.

In discus throw,Amanpreet Kaur of Kapurthala bagged gold with a throw of 45.05 metre,while Baljit Kaur of Jalandhar got the silver after a throw of 44.08 metre. Navjeet Kaur of Amritsar won bronze with a throw of 38.45 metre.

Meanwhile,Jalandhar crushed Mansa by 28 points in a pre-quarter final kabaddi match to sail into the last eight. Sangrur outclassed Nawan Shehar by 17 points,while Kapurthala beat Patiala by nine points. Ludhiana recorded an easy 16-point win over Barnala,while Ferozepur blanked Moga by 31 points. Faridkot got the better of Gurdaspur by 18 points,while Bathinda outplayed Mohali by 28 points. Hoshiarpur recorded the biggest win of the day as they crushed Tarn Taran by 41 points.

Earlier,Padma Shree Pargat Singh,Punjab Director Sports,made heartiest welcome to the chief guest Mohinder Kaur Josh and told the participants to keep themselves physically and mentally fit for the competitions.

Josh said the Punjab government will honour the medal winners of the Commonwealth Games in the near future. She announced that the gold medalists would get Rs 7 lakh,silver medalists Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for bronze medalists.

Prize money would also be given to medal winners of the upcoming National Games For Women. Shooter Heena Sidhu,who won a gold and silver medal,and archer Gagandeep Kaur,were also felicitated during the event.

Jalandhar bt Mansa by 28 Points; Sangrur bt Nawan Shehar by 17 Points,Kapurthala bt Patiala by 9 Points,Ludhiana bt Barnala by 16 Points,Ferozepur bt Moga by 31 Points,Faridkot bt Gurdaspur by 18 Points,Bathinda bt Mohali by 28 Points,Hoshiarpur bt Tarn Taran by 41 Points.
