Nagar Kirtan ‘Jagriti Yatra’ enters Punjab, spreads Guru Tegh Bahadur’s message of unity, sacrifice

The 36th-day Jagriti Yatra, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, entered Mohali with thousands of devotees lining the roads.

The Grand Nagar Kirtan ‘Jagriti Yatra’, marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru revered for his supreme sacrifice for religious freedom and human rights, entered Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) district on its 36th day of the nationwide pilgrimage.

The sacred procession was accorded a warm welcome by Malvinder Singh Benipal, convenor of the Nagar Kirtan for Punjab, along with his team, in the presence of several political and religious dignitaries.

Organised by the Takht Sri Harimandir, Patna Sahib Prabandhak Committee (TSHJPPC) in collaboration with the government of Bihar, the Jagriti Yatra aims to spread Guru Tegh Bahadur’s message of faith, unity, compassion, and universal brotherhood, while also celebrating the sacred connection with Patna Sahib, the guru’s birthplace.

After a halt at Kurukshetra, the yatra entered Punjab in its final phase, where thousands of devotees, residents, and members of the Sikh sangat lined the roads to welcome it with devotion. The atmosphere reverberated with soulful kirtan, chants of “Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal,” and energetic Gatka displays symbolising Sikh valour and spirit.

The Jagriti Yatra was flagged off from Takht Harimandir, Patna Sahib, on September 17, 2025, by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, in the presence of eminent Sikh leaders and officials of the Bihar government.

Since its commencement, the procession carrying the Guru Granth Sahib and sacred relics of Guru Tegh Bahadur has journeyed across nine Indian states, comprising Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and now Punjab, spreading the guru’s teachings of courage, compassion, and religious harmony.

In Punjab, the sacred yatra will cover prominent historic gurdwaras and towns such as Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Khanna, Sultanpur Lodhi, Jalandhar, Kartarpur, Ludhiana, and Nawanshahr, before culminating at Anandpur Sahib on October 27, 2025.
