Kidney scam: UP cops return with documents

Uttar Pradesh police team,which had reached Mohali on Thursday along with 2 accused of the kidney scam,visited both hospitals that were under the scanner.

An Uttar Pradesh police team,which had reached Mohali on Thursday along with 2 accused of the kidney scam,visited both hospitals that were under the scanner: Surya Kidney Centre and Silver Oaks hospital,on Saturday.

The team spent over 2 hours at both the hospitals and took along with them documents pertaining to transplants that have been conducted here. The team also returned to its state on Saturday evening.

On whether the team discovered anything to suggest the involvement of the two local hospitals in the scam,Lucknow DIG S K Thakur,when contacted over the phone,said he will only be able to divulge details after the police team returns to Lucknow.

The scam surfaced when the Lucknow Police,on December 25,arrested four people for allegedly luring people to the two hospitals for transplants. The hospitals,however,have since the beginning been maintaining their innocence.

An inquiry report,submitted by the Civil Surgeon on Saturday had given the hospitals a clean chit while the Mohali DC constituted an SIT to further probe the matter and submit a report soon.
