(File photo/ Representational)Two days after masked robbers had barged into the branch of Punjab and Sind Bank at Bagli Kalan village of Samrala and fled with Rs 15.92 lakh in cash after holding the staff captive at gunpoint, the Khanna police Friday said that three persons were arrested, and Rs 8.75 lakh in cash, an Audi car and a bike were recovered from them.
Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal said that on June 11, the manager of Punjab and Sind Bank, Bagli Kalan branch, informed the police that three unidentified persons committed a robbery of Rs 15.92 lakh at gunpoint from their bank. An FIR was registered under sections 392, 397, 506 of the IPC and sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Samrala police station.
During investigation, special police teams were formed to trace the culprits. SSP Kondal said that these teams carried out investigations by technical and scientific means, and CCTV footage of around 100-km area was scanned. During the investigation, the motorcycle used by the accused in this incident was spotted and recovered from Ludhiana city.
During further investigation, it came to light that after abandoning the bike used in the crime, the accused bought one second-hand Audi car from Jalandhar and escaped.
The police arrested Amritpal Singh, alias Amrit, of Riar village; Gurmeen Singh, alias Nona of Kotli Kortana village, and Jagdish Singh, alias Gulai of Sarai village — all three from Ajnala division of Amritsar district.
The SSP said that during the investigation, it was revealed that the accused are habitual criminals and prior to this incident, they had committed three gunpoint robberies at Adampur and Phillaur petrol pumps in Jalandhar (rural) area.
