Congratulatory messages are still pouring in for Harmanpreet Kaur, who,on Thursday, was elevated to the post of captain of the Indian women cricket team. With this,Harman, from Moga, became the first women cricketer from Punjab to be appointed to lead the national team. MP Pandove, secretary,Punjab Cricket Association (PCA),said it was a proud moment for the state as the Punjab’s women captain has been made skipper of the national side for the ODI series against Bangladesh to be held next month. Pandove showed his confidence in her and said this would prove to be a shot in the arm of Punjab’s women cricket fortunes. He stated that Harmanpreet’s exploits, despite coming from a small village, would inspire more young girls to take cricket as sport and help Punjab once again re-establish themselves on the cricket map in India. “I am sure that Harmanpreet Kaur would certainly serve the country for a longtime,” he said.
