Kamal has been accused of making BJP play the second fiddle to SAD owing to his closeness to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Kamal Sharma is likely to retain the post of Haryana BJP president, election for which is scheduled Sunday.
Sources in BJP said three leaders, including Kamal Sharma, Ashwani Sharma and Avinash Rai Khanna, are the frontrunners for the post. In all likelihood, Kamal Sharma would return for a second term.
BJP’s national general secretary Arun Singh is visiting Chandigarh day after to preside over the election. The BJP has finished with elections to its organisational setup in November.
While Kamal Sharma is being supported by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Avinash and Ashwani are backed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Kamal has been accused of making BJP play the second fiddle to SAD owing to his closeness to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He, however, started asserting himself after Jaitley is learnt to have pushed him to do so.
He was, however, in the dock when his former assistant Jaspal Singh ‘Jimmy’ Sandhu was arrested in a bribery and corruption case in August this year. His arrest had resulted in a clamour for Kamal’s removal.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of cricketer-turned-politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu has been openly holding Kamal responsible for Jaitley’s defeat in Lok Sabha election, stating he could not sense the pulse of the people although she had been approaching him to fight for the people in her constituency.
