In the fourth such incident in the last six days where a policeman was injured on duty,a Chandigarh Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was injured when he signalled a car to stop after it jumped the red light. The injured has been identified as ASI Avtar Singh,who is posted with the police control room (PCR) wing of the force.
According to the police,the incident took place at around 1.15 am on Wednesday
when the assistant sub-inspector was deployed at a
checkpoint of the police control room at the Transport light point. A jeep bearing a Punjab registration number (PB-04B-7589),which was coming from the Manimajra side,jumped the red signal.
The assistant sub-inspector signalled the Jeep to stop but it sped away after hitting him. Avtar sustained injuries on his knees and arm and was admitted to GMSH,Sector 16.
Meanwhile,a case of rash driving and stopping a government employee from discharging his duty was registered at the Sector 26 police station.
The cops are verifying the number of the vehicle to ascertain the identity of its owner in order to arrest him.
Two days ago,a constable was injured in similar way when an SUV bearing a Delhi registration number hit him when he signalled him to stop for tinted film violation.
Apart from this,last week two home guard volunteers were allegedly beaten up by some people in two different incidents when they tried to stop them. Chandigarh Police authorities are worried about the spate of attacks on members of the force.
