Mean machines, fuel & wheels, turntables & techno-babble – city men show off the love of their lives
Boys and their toys. How can one do without the other? Researchers have proved that irrespective of age,it is next to impossible to separate men from their gizmos. Ok,we might have made that one up,but a quick look around town and you’ll get enough examples to prove us right. Mean machines, fuel and wheels – Bikram Singh has made a whole lot of men proud with his entourage of bikes that includes a Royal Enfield Thunderbolt,a Royal Enfield Machismo and a Yamaha 350. He confesses,”Since bikes take lesser space and have a simpler mechanism,it’s easier to tinker with them than cars. It is for this reason that I’ve always been fascinated with them because it keeps my passion going of figuring out how the last bolt works!” The 29-year-old working with Pack Travels and Tourism has spanned the country from Ladakh to Kanyakumari with his co-members of the biking club Road Survivors and he’s more than proud of the achievement. What is he upto now? “Well,I’ve opened the engine of my bullet and am re-programming it’s ignition,” he tells us while wiping the grease off his hands. While he paves his own road,UILS Law Student Neeraj Batra is grooving to his self-made tunes on his very own Denon turntables. We can’t help but dance our way up to his ‘dj-ing’ room from where some great beats come bouncing off the walls. A present from his elder sister (that’s what we call one lucky guy!),Neeraj has been working his musical instincts for nearly a year now to create music. How does a novice get so good at something he’s never done before? “When I first opened the box,I was a bit taken aback by so many buttons. But my love for music got me fiddling around with the knobs on the console and in three days I had already got a hang of it. Now I put in an hour or two everyday to improve myself.” His friends, who specially come to listen to him play, give testimony to this. Some people are just made for such things.
Meanwhile, another Law Student at PU,Angad Makkar is bringing the party home with his very own pool table installed in his lobby. And it’s not just he who is making full use of it; his elder brother Puneet and dad Makkar are as enthusiastic about it. “Since my father wanted one himself,it didn’t take very much to persuade him to get one for us. We got it as soon as we shifted to our new home and now my friends and I catch a game whenever we’re free.” While he hasn’t taken the game on professionally,he’s good enough to beat most players hands down. But everyone knows how boys never remain satisfied with one thing. So does Angad have anything in particular on his wish list? “Well, nothing really except for the new PS3. I’ve got an X Box and PS2,but I need to get my hands on the latest one!” So be it. But in case you think a boy’s club is only for college going youngsters,Anuj Sundra and his posse happily attest otherwise. Co-partner of the garment retail store in Sector 17,RCS,Sundra and his three friends – Sunil Talwar,Anil Gulati and Vikram Joshi – each pitched in to buy an EZ-GO golf cart for the love of the sport. “Apart from that,on days when it is hot and humid,it helps keep us cool and concentrated on the game. It is battery operated and once charged, runs for the full day on the course.” Since his house is closest to the Golf Club, the cute car remains parked at his pad. But until he gets it to the destination,he makes heads turn all the time on the roads. “A lot of people stop me to ask questions or just stare. It’s a bit amusing because the car isn’t meant for the roads anyway!” But we guess they’re entitled to it.
After all,not every man is a master player at his game!
