In town to launch the New Year Collection of UK-based diamond jewellery brand Zaira Diamond in Sector 17,British singer and global ambassador of the brand,Milli Moonstone showed off her dazzling rocks and sang Punjabi numbers too,while simultaneously promoting her new album,Lose Myself. I love to play Indian musical instruments,especially the sarangi, says this international performer who has been practising music since she was 17. Having performed in over 19 countries for the last 20 years,Moonstone adds how she became interested in different cultures when she went to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London to study Asian and African music. Her focus there though,was on Indian and South-east Asian musical traditions. I first became acquainted with the sarangi there and fell in love with it. Its the most haunting instrument I have ever heard, says the singer,who is also adept at playing the flute,the violin,the guitar,pipes and a bit of the piano.
Festive Chic
The Mohali-based International Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) ushered in the festive spirit of the season with a themed Xmas Jingle all the way fashion show held at the institutes premises in Industrial Area Phase VII,Mohali on Sunday. The student designers showcased an assortment of collections at the show,which comprised four rounds. Rayee Akhtar,one of the students,dressed up as Santa Claus and gave away gifts to the guests. We wanted to give students a platform to boost their confidence and showcase their creative efforts, mentioned the institutes director Kawaljeet Singh.
