Woman in judicial custody for husband’s murder
A day after a man was allegedly murdered by his wife and her lover,a local court on Friday sent the woman to judicial custody,while remanding the other accused to a day’s police custody. Dharam Singh was allegedly murdered by Mohini and Kuldeep Singh. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered in Manimajra police station.

Former Information Commissioner’s brother dies
Former Haryana Information Commissioner Ashok Mehta’s younger brother Ravish Mehta (55) died of heart attack in Chandigarh on Thursday. He was cremated at Naringarh today.

Bar Association suspends work
Advocates at the District and Sessions Court and members of District Bar Association suspended work in protest against the alleged misbehaviour of a judicial officer with an employee on Friday. The Bar also held a meeting in the afternoon to chalk out the further course of action. While members of the Bar association were tightlipped on the matter,sources in the court claim a senior judicial official allegedly misbehaved with a court employee. They warned that the protest is likely to continue till Saturday.

LIC launches its first satelite service
To streamline the work of life insurance,first satellite service through CLIA branch was inaugurated by Northern Zonal Manager VK Sinha at the LIC office premises in Ambala Cantonment on Friday. Through the new channel,LIC empowered the club members to nominate separate agents to procure new business through the scheme. Sinha said due to CLIA,LIC procured 2,563 crore FPI and 2,090,802 policies during 2009-10.

Freshers’ party held in Panchkula
A freshers’ party was organised for Class XI students of Satluj Public School,Sector 4,Panchkula,on Friday. The party started with Principal Krit Serai’s blessings. He said,“The concept of the freshers’ party is to familiarise the students with the school and to each other.” Certificates,medals and sashes were also given to deserving participants.

Executive engineer convicted for bribery
The CBI court awarded two-year imprisonment and imposed a Rs 25,000-fine on Sandeep,an executive engineer at the Hospital Engineering Department,PGI,on Friday. Sandeep was arrested on May 9,2008,on the complaint of one Jaspal Singh,who had alleged that he demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from him. Later,the police laid a trap and caught Sandeep red-handed.

Bank frauds
Two persons lost Rs 37,600,when some unknown people withdrew cash from their accounts through an ATM on Friday. PK Mahajan,branch manager of Canara Bank,Phase X,told police that Rs 37,000 cash was withdrawn from Prabhjot Kaur’s account while Balbir Singh lost Rs 600. Both customers came to know about the fraud when they got their passbooks updated from the bank. A case has been registered in this regard. Meanwhile,in another incident,Saurav Ghosh,vice-president-cum-circle manager,Kotak Mohindra Bank,reported to the police that five employees of their bank usurped money by withdrawing it from accounts of bank customers,The amount usurped has not been disclosed yet.

Mishra sent on seven-day remand
CHANDIGARH: A local court sent Sanjay Mishra,who has been implicated in several cases of cheating,to seven-day police remand. He was arrested on Thursday,for cheating people by promising them career in films,television serials and so on. Mishra,a resident of Mumbai,used to portray himself as the owner of Tun Tun Promotions and Coordination Services. He was arrested from a hotel in Sector 22,after nearly ten people complained against him in the Sector 17 police station. Police is investigating if other people were involved with him.

Hearing in ‘abductor’s’ bail plea adjourned
The hearing in the bail plea of Avinash Garg alias Rahul (25),a readymade garment merchant of Lehragaga in Sangrur,was adjourned for Saturday by the sub-divisional judicial court on Friday. Rahul was arrested on the charge of “abducting” a 23-year-old MBA student of Phase 3-A,Balpreet Kaur,and is lodged in Patiala Central Jail at present. On Thursday,Kaur had deposed before the court in favour of Rahul and denied having been abducted,claiming she had gone with Rahul on her own,as her parents allegedly wanted to marry her against her wishes. As she refused to go back home after being “recovered”,she was sent to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar.
