SD College employees without salary for two months
Teachers and other staff of the Ambala Cantonment SD College have not received their salaries for the last two months. The salaries,which are paid by the first of every month by the college authorities,have not been paid even till date. Haryana College Teachers’ Association president,UV Singh and Governing Body member ML Madan regretted in a joint statement that the salaries had been held due to the indifferent attitude of the college administration,which had not taken the issue seriously to get the grant-in-aid cleared from the Director,Higher Education,Haryana. Madan also took up the matter in the governing body meeting,alleging that the authorities had not taken up the issue seriously and did not reply to the letters written with regard to the payment of salaries. However,the college principal,Dr Deshbandhu,said every effort was made to get the salaries disbursed,even by drawing the amount against fixed deposits. He said the matter was being pursued with the Director,Higher education,to get the grant released.

Rs 9 lakh sanctioned for yoga naturopathy centre
The Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN),New Delhi ,has sanctioned a grant of Rs 9 lakh as financial assistance for running a treatment-cum-propagation centre of 30 beds at Ambala Cantonment. A letter received by Dr Ved Prakash,Yoga Guru,Nature Cure Centre,Ambala Cantonment,from the CCRYN stated the aims and objectives of the scheme under which the financial assistance has been granted,which included running of free yoga classes. The letter said the centre must conduct at least six yoga and naturopathy camps,each of minimum three days duration in a year,for propagation of these disciplines among the masses and to propagate the principles and practices of yoga and naturopathy among local population to prevent diseases and promote health awareness among them.

550 awarded degrees at Landran college
A total of 550 students,who passed out MCA,MBA,BC A,BTech,Pharmacy,Hotel Management and BEd,from Chandigarh Group of Colleges were awarded degrees at an annual convocation held at the college campus in Landran village on Friday.

The chief guest Yogesh Kochhar,Director (Business),Microsoft,awarded the degrees. In his convocation address,Kochhar said,“We at Microsoft are always striving to achieve excellence in everything we do and encourage our students to be nothing but the best.”

One killed in accident
One person was killed and two injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles at Kohra Chowk on the Naraingarh-Chandigarh state highway on Friday. According to information,Mange Ram,a resident of Batora village was going towards Raipur Rani on his bike when a motorcycle with two riders Dinesh and Jaswinder coming from the opposite direction collided with his bike. All three were seriously injured in the accident. They were rushed to the civil hospital,Naraingarh,from where they were referred to the PGI,Chandiarh. Mange Ram,however,succumbed to his injuries. The police have registered a case in this regard.

Man commits suicide
A 35-year-old resident of Indrawas Colony in Ram Darbar allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ram Phull. The police have started inquest proceedings in the case.

UT police seize 603 boxes of liquor
The Operations Cell of UT Police seized liquor from two persons carrying them in two different vehicles to Jodhpur. Inspector Devinder Sharma who headed the teams said the accused Surja Ram of Sursagar in Jodhpur and Raj Kumar of Sukhani village,Sujanpur in Hamirpur,HP,carried 603 boxes of English wine of various brands. They were arrested from light point near Kalibari Mandir in Sector 31 and Poultry Farm Chowk respectively.

The accused have been booked under Section 420 of IPC and 61,1 and 14 sections of Excise Act. The police are further investigating the matter.
