Beniwal loses in men’s singles final
It was tough day for Suraj Beniwal of Haryana as he lost to GP Prajnesh of Tamilnadu 0-6,1-6 in the men’s singles final in the HTA-AITA Tennis Tournament which concluded in Jassowal on Friday. Beniwal lost the first set with a 0-6 margin before losing the second set with a 1-6 margin to miss out the title. In the women’s singles final,Sharmada Balu of Karnataka ended the challenge of Bhuvana of Andhra Pradesh with a 6-2,6-3 win. Balu claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-3 margin.

In the men’s doubles final,the duo of Ajay Yadav and Gurinder Singh ended the challenge of Sagar Manjanna and Rashein Samuel with a 6-0,6-1 win.In the women’s doubles final,the duo of Natasha Palha and Bhuvana Kalva ended the challenge of Shweta Rana and Sharmada Balu with a 6-2,6-3 win.

Bhavan Vidyalaya claim top spot panchkula
Bhavan Vidyalaya,Panchkula claimed the top spot in the U-14 girls’ category on the second day of the district level Chess Championship being played at The British School. The Gurkul School,Panchkula claimed the second spot while the third spot was claimed by Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School. In the U-17 girls’ category,Bhavan Vidyalaya,Panchkula claimed the top spot while the second spot was claimed by The Gurukul School,Panchkula.

The third spot was claimed by the hosts The British School,Panchkula. In the U-19 girls’ category,The British School,Panchkula claimed the top spot while the second spot was claimed by St. Teresa Convent School,Panchkula. The third spot was claimed by Government Senior Secondary School,Saketri.

Badminton tourney from July 23
The District Badminton Association,Panchkula will organise the Tricity School Badminton Tournament from July 23 to July 25 at Community Centre,Sector 7,Panchkula. The players from Chandigarh,Mohali and Panchkula in the age-groups of U-14,U-17 and U-19 are eligible to take part in the championship,which will be played on National Games pattern. The heads of all the educational institutions can send their entries along with age proof certificates and participation fee (Rs 50 for singles and Rs 100 for doubles) to Vivek Sharma,badminton coach,Community Centre,Sector 7,Panchkula.

Cricket trials on July 19
Chandigarh Cricket Association (affiliated to PCA) will organise trials to select U-19 and senior women team for the upcoming Inter-District Cricket Tournament to be held in August later this year. Interested players are required to report at Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36 on July 19.
