Garib Das (60),a resident of Lalru village,allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Saturday morning. The deceased left behind a suicide note,in which he held responsible his brother Ashwani Kumar’s daughter-in-law Rinki,her sister Jyoti and mother Rajrani for forcing him to take the drastic step. Preliminary investigations revealed that Rinki was having a family dispute and she had lodged a complaint at the women cell against all her in-laws,including uncle Garib Das being a member of the joint family. Garib Das had recently lost his son and he could not face the insult at the women cell,family sources said. Police have booked the three women under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code and initiated further investigations in the case.

Pracheen Kala Kendra workshops conclude
Pracheen Kala Kendra’s seventh annual month-long production oriented workshops in theatrical arts and dance,conducted under the direction of noted artistes Siddhant Verma,Dev Raj,Surinder Singh and Ravinder,concluded with a colourful culmination function. It took place at the Kosers’ indoor auditorium of the Kendra in Sector 71 on Saturday evening. A total of 35 children,between the age group of 5 to 16 years,took part in the items prepared during the workshop. An opera featuring dramatic work of 18 girls,was staged amid thunderous applause. A satire on the present culture of the country which depicted the story of a kingdom named “Andher Nagari” was also staged. Shobha Koser,registrar of the Kendra,honoured the artists.

‘Good wishes’ bank to open account today
To foster the spirit and atmosphere of peace,harmony and cooperation in society,a unique bank titled “Billion Minutes Good Wishes Bank” will be opened by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya. This novel bank will have no money deposits unlike other banks but instead it will have a daily global collection and deposit of people’s ‘pledge good wishes minutes’ dedicated to the cause of world welfare and universal well being,said centre head B K Premlata. She said the depositors will need to spread good wishes and vibrations daily for at least 5 minutes. A printed card will be provided to all participants to keep a record of the accumulated good wishes. Punjab Home Secretary B S Sudan will formally inaugurate the bank at Sukh Shanti Bhawan in Phase VII here on Sunday.

Woman hit by vehicle dies
A domestic help died after being hit by a vehicle in Sector 18 on Saturday evening. The victim,62-year-old Ram Sawari,died on the spot. The incident occurred when she was on her way to a house for her duty. The PCR van rushed the victim to the PGI where she was declared dead on arrival. She is a resident of Sector 25. The number and type of the vehicle could not be noted down,the police said.

A case of causing death due to negligence against the unidentified accused has been registered in the Sector-19 police station.

Two injured in accident
Two persons were injured in an accident on Saturday morning on the dividing road of Sector 16-17. According to sources,driver of an auto,Amit,fell asleep while driving and rammed the vehicle into a cyclist,Shamim Azad. They were admitted to General Hospital-6. Amit who sustained serious injuries was referred to PGI.

Police ‘open fire’ at snatchers
Shots were allegedly fired at the Sector-7 market around 10.30 pm on Saturday by UT police officers. SHO of the Industrial Area was chasing two boys after a snatching incident in Sector 29,Chandigarh. They drove their Accent bearing a fake registration number towards Panchkula. The Panchkula police have not confirmed the firing. No arrests have been made yet.
