The post mortem of the unidentified man,who was found hanging in the forest area near Hallo Majra under mysterious circumstances on Monday,has revealed that the man died of asphyxia due to hanging. The SHO of the Industrial Area police station,Yashpal Vinayak,said the post mortem examination confirmed that the death was caused due to hanging and there was no other injury marks on the body. The body was in a bad shape and the doctors premised that the death might have been caused around three weeks back. Ruling out any foul play behind the death,as the victim’s hands were found to be tied with a string,police said the doctors mentioned in the report after examining the body that the hands were loosely tied with what appeared to be shoe laces.

Class XII Board English examination cancelled
The Haryana School Education Board has cancelled the English Core examination of senior secondary second semester of evening shift as it was leaked. It will now be conducted on March 30. Board secretary Mandeep Singh Brar said his office received a complaint on Wednesday regarding the leak,adding that an FIR had been lodged with the police. District Education Officer Nalini Mimani said it was around 12 noon when she received information from the Board that examination had been cancelled. “There were 17 examination centres set up for the students of Class XII with around 250 pupils taking the examination in each center,” she said. As soon as she got information,Panchkula deputy commissioner,Pankaj Yadav and SDMs at Panchkula and Kalka were informed accordingly,said Mimani.

Admissions to nursery opens in govt schools
The education department has opened admissions to nursery and pre-nursery classes in all model schools. The admission forms will be available at all the schools,free of cost. Thirty per cent seats have been reserved for girls. The legibility for pre-nursery is 3 years and above and for nursery it is 4 years and above.

Put up boards at road-repair sites,resident writes to mayor
R K Garg,a resident of Sector 27,has written to Mayor Anu Chatrath that boards should be installed at the site of road repairs with the names of officers-in-charge,their contact numbers as well as the contact number of contractors.

Garg has written in the letter that widening of roads is taking place in various sectors in the city. At certain places,the repair takes more time than the scheduled time,thus causing inconvenience to the residents. The residents should know where to air their grievances,he has said.

Special handsfree instrument designed to help people perform pranayama
With changing lifestyles and busy schedules,people have become prone to many serious diseases. Keeping this in mind,yoga teacher Satnam Singh claims,he thought of devising a special instrument to perform Anulom Vilom Pranayama which can be used while doing daily chores. The pranayama is a breathing technique where one inhales through one nostril and exhales through the other. Addressing the media at the Press Club on Wednesday,Satnam said: “Aasans like Bhastrika and Kapalbhati are done with full dedication. But when it comes to Anulom Vilom,people have a tendency to become lazy. Due to shortage of time and concentration,they tend to do it for not more than 5 minutes which does not prove to be effective. So I designed this device which is completely handsfree and can be used anytime and anywhere without any effort.” He claims he has been working on the device for the last three years. The instrument will be provided for free to the physically challenged so that they can also avail benefits of yoga,Satnam said,while adding that he plans to market the product globally.

Trinamool Congress members seek 15 per cent reservation for underprivileged students in schools
Demanding that all private schools reserve 15 per cent seats for students from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS),members of the Trinamool Congress Committee held a protest at the Rally Ground in Sector 25 on Wednesday. The members said that they had also decided to meet the Administrator in this regard as schools were openly violating the norm. Around 60 members and residents from Mauli Jagran,Maloya,and Colony Number 5 gathered at the ground sporting black badges as a form of protest. While earlier they had complained against the management of Strawberry Fields School,residents said now they are seeking action against all schools violating the rules.

Ranjit Bajaj case: Police leave for UP to recover weapon
While a six-member police team has left for Uttar Pradesh along with Malkhan Singh,the gunman of Ranjit Bajaj,another team led by Chandimandir Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jangsher has left for Panipat in search of the second gunman,Mahendra Singh. “After taking five days police remand of Malkhan Singh,a police team has left for his native place to recover the weapon that was used to assault the judge’s son at North Park,” said Jangsher. Another police official,requesting anonymity,said that during investigation,the gunman revealed that the pistol was used by Bajaj during the scuffle. Ranjit Bajaj,along with his two private gunmen,was booked under charges of attempt to murder by the Panchkula police.

Tax receipts to be computerised at Mohali transport office
After being authorised to issue registration certificates of vehicles and driving licences,the District Transport Officer (DTO) in Mohali would soon be giving out computerised tax receipts. Disclosing this on Wednesday,DTO Karan Singh said the computerisation process for tax receipts would be operational before May 15. Till now,the tax receipts were issued manually,for which vehicle owners had to wait in long queues to deposit the tax annually. The new system would make the system more transparent and will require no extra staff as the payment can be made at the single window already functional. DTO urged commercial vehicle owners to pay their annual tax before March 31 to avoid late fee. He added that Rs 80 lakh has been recovered from defaulters so far

PU to have two more regional centres in Punjab
The Panjab University (PU) is all set to add two more regional centres to the existing four. One will come up at Muktsar while the other one is yet to be finalised. Recently,the Punjab Government had allocated a budget of Rs 5 crore for the project. In Muktsar,the centre will come up over 12 acres of land for which faculty positions would be advertised soon. The centre would become operational from coming academic session. Meanwhile,modalities are still being worked for the other centre.

Informing one of the senior faculty members at PU said,“We are really pleased to set up this regional centre. The main idea is to offer job-oriented courses. Once the centre becomes operational,we shall also look forward to have placements.”

Before this the last regional centre had come up in Nathuwala Moga in Moga and the other three are in Hoshiarpur,Ludhiana and Muktsar.

SD College don gets Rs 9.61-lakh UGC research grant
Dr M L Verma,associate professor,Department of Physics,GGDSD College,Sector 32-C,Chandigarh,has been granted a major research project entitled “Dielectric studies of chalcogenide glasses for electronic devices” by the University Grants Commission,New Delhi. A financial assistance of Rs. 9.61 lakh has been sanctioned for carrying out the research work. The project will be carried out under the co-supervision of Dr S K Tripathi and Dr Navdeep Goyal of Department of Physics,Panjab University,Chandigarh. Principal Dr A C Vaid congratulated Dr Verma for his laudable achievement and wished him success for his research work.

290 donate blood at Rayat college
Over 290 students came together at the fifth blood donation camp organised by Rayat Technology Centre of Excellence at its Railmajra campus on Wednesday. The camp was inaugurated by Balachaur SDM Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal. A team of doctors from the Rotary and Blood Bank Society of Chandigarh conducted the camp. While speaking on the occasion,Aggarwal applauded the efforts made by the Rayat group to inculcate a sense of responsibility among students.

Congress MLA alleges bias by Mohali officials
Congress MLA from Kharar Balbir Sidhu raised the issue of ‘official neglect’ in the Punjab Assembly during the budget session on Monday. The opposition legislator accused Mohali officials of ‘bias’. Raising a question over the construction of bus stand in Kharar,Sidhu said at a recent meeting,chaired by Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand,to discuss the progress on the project,he was not invited whereas SAD MLA from Morinda Ujjagar Singh Badali and Independent MLA from Chamkaur Sahib Charanjit Singh,were called. Assembly Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon and Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia assured to issue necessary directions.

Passing of Women’s Reservation Bill hailed
All India Congress Committee member Lakhwinder Kaur Garcha hailed the passing of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha. In a statement,Garcha along with senior Congress leader and municipal councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi said the UPA government had created history. Other parties too welcomed the passing of the Bill. Members of Chandigarh Territorial Mahila Congress met at the Congress Bhawan,Sector 35,under the chairpersonship of president Lalit Joshi. Former municipal councillor Ranjana Shahi said the move had raised the morale of women and hoped the Bill would soon be tabled in the Lok Sabha.
