Photography showcases the extraordinary in the ordinary, unusual in the usual. For instance,in a photography exhibition called Illuminations… letting the light draw,Bobby and Sharan Pal Singh present smoke in versatile forms. In the 23 photographs on display, they have created human images (one of them an outline of Gandhis face),flowers, sculptures, cartoon characters through an interplay of the wisps of smoke.
These pictures have been taken with natural smoke wisps, without using the influence of artificial wind, claim the photographers. They say they worked without lights or fans and selected only 100 of the 7,000 pictures they had clicked. In these frames, like in the one where smoke from an incense stick forms a smiling character, you can view the smoke freeze mid-air,just at the right moment. Its a technique developed over time and you need to capture the motion at the right time and light, says Singh.
The second section of the exhibition has 22 photographs, capturing the beauty of the city and its various moods from dusk to dawn. The frames are accentuated with natural and artificial lighting. All 45 photographs here have a black backdrop.
These capture the serenity of the Rose Garden at night,hustle-bustle on city roads,Sector 17 plaza, colourful fountains and roundabouts. Put up by Progressive Photography Group, the exhibitions on at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,till August 15.
