With the introduction of the first all-women Police Control Room (PCR),women constables manning traffic would become a common sight. In a recent decision,the Panchkula police have introduced women police constables in its traffic branch.
While the decision to incorporate women constables in the traffic branch of the police was taken long ago,it has finally been implemented. At present,of the 25 traffic officers,four are women and they will man the MDC traffic lightpoint,Tawa Chowk,Tank Chowk and Sector-6 police headquarters turnpoint, said inspector Surjit Kumar.
He added that though only four women constables have been introduced in the traffic branch,plans are underway to recruit more women.
The introduction of women into traffic branch will not only strengthen the department but will also go a long way in boosting the morale of the women constables in the force, Kumar added.
Not only this,now the city will have two police control rooms manned by women.
Looking at the success of the women PCR,we have added another women PCR in the industrial area, said the traffic inspector.
Talking to Newsline,Rohit Mehra,a resident of Sector 15,said,It is heartening to see women constables taking up the challenging task. It would increase the responsibility and efficiency of the police department.
