80-year-old woman dies in accident
Chandigarh:An 80-year-old woman riding a rickshaw died when she was hit by a motorcycle on the Sector 36/42 intersection today. Jamna was going to the doctor for check up and was being taken by her son Ram Lal in the rickshaw. The rickshaw was hit from the rear by a bike driven by Rahul (26),a resident of Baterla who is employed with a private company. Jamna got a severe head injury and succumbed on way to the hospital.
The accused Rahul was arrested in a case of causing death due to negligence under section 304 A on a complaint filed by rickshaw puller Ram Lal who lost his mother. Both are residents of Daddu Majra Colony. A case has been registered in Sector 36 police station.
Defamation suit against Ujjal Dosanjh
CHANDIGARH:A Canadian citizen has filed a defamation suit against Ujjal Dosanjh,member of Parliament from Vancouver,Canada,for his statement made in Chandigarh against the second and third generation of Sikhs immigrants propagating Khalistan. Avtar Singh has filed a criminal complaint which came up for hearing in the court of CJM today. Advocates Navkiran Singh and Tejinder Singh Sudan had filed the suit on behalf of Avtar Singh. The court today fixed December 10,2010,as the next date of hearing for preliminary evidence on the basis of which Ujjal Dosanjh can be summoned for criminal offence of defamation which can attract imprisonment for 2 years. Dosanjh visited India in September,2010 and in a press conference held in Himachal Bhawan,Sector 28,gave statements which invited criticism from Sikhs.
Two dowry cases registered
CHANDIGARH:Based on investigation by the Crime against Women Cell,the police today booked members of two families for allegedly demanding dowry in separate cases today. In first incident,Rupinder Singh,resident of Kharar,was booked under Section 406 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for harassing his wife and demanding more dowry. In her complaint,Kulbir Kaur alleged that she was mentally and physical tortured by her husband for dowry. After investigating the matter,a case has been registered in the Sector 34 Police Station. In another case,as many as seven members of a family were booked on charges of demanding dowry. In complaint given to the Sector 26 Police Station,Sukhwinder Kaur alleged that Balbir Singh,husband,Sarwan Singh,father-in-law,Santosh Kaur,mother-in-law,Harwinder,brother-in-law,Jasbir Singh,brother-in-law,Neetu,sister-in-law,and Harwinder Kaur,sister-in-law,harassed her to bring more dowry. A case under sections 406,498-A of the IPC has been registered.
