After a solid hit in the first few months of 2009,the world of four wheel drives is finally back on track,and boy are they racing ahead,starting with Audi,the German luxury car manufacturer. The latest is that in spite of the challenging market conditions,it has successfully managed to surpass the annual target of 1,500 cars. With sales of 101 cars for the month of November 2009,Audi India registered a growth of 12 per cent (90 cars in November 2008).

“With good sales in November,we have not only achieved the target we had set ourselves at the start of the year,but well exceeded it. Our increasing sales reflect the growing familiarity and wide acceptance that Audi has managed to cultivate for itself in India. Our core brand philosophy of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ combined with the motivation provided by this record sales figure will encourage us to further delight our customers,” comments Benoit Tiers,Managing Director,Audi India.

This year saw Audi India launch the new Audi A6,the Audi Q5,the new Audi Q7,three new engines to the existing range of Audi A4 and new dealerships.

Meanwhile,SkodaAuto India has registered a record growth of 183 per cent in sales for the month of November 2009 over November 2008. SkodaAuto India’s total sales for November 2009 stood at 1425 units as against 504 units in November,2008. Says Thomas Kuehl,Board Member,Sales and Marketing,SkodaAuto India,“We have witnessed a record growth of 183 per cent in sales for the month of November 2009 over 2008 and a double-digit jump of 93 per cent in sales in the last three months (September – November) over the same period last year. The launch of the all new Skoda Superb and the new Laura in the Indian markets has been the main drivers behind SkodaAuto India’s record increase in sales. The all new Superb,in particular,continues to outperform expectations.” He also added that they’re considering a price hike between Rs.10,000 to Rs. 20,000 on all their cars in the coming month. “This rise is being considered due to various Inflationary pressures and increase in raw material costs,” he said.

In the hatchback segment,Maruti Suzuki,we hear,has shipped out 100000th A-star in less than a year. Riding on the success of its “Green car” label in European markets,the A-star,Maruti Suzuki’s flagship world strategic model for global markets,crossed export mark of 1 lakh units,with the shipment from Mundra Port .

Europe has emerged as the major export destination for A-star,where the car is sold as Suzuki Alto. Maruti Suzuki has exported 93,562 units of A-star to Europe alone. Currently,A-star sells in 19 countries in Europe.
