Home Secretary Ram Niwas paid a surprise visit to Government Senior Secondary School in Karsan on Saturday. Niwas directed the principal to get necessary maintenance and rectification done and ensure that all computer terminals are functional within a week. Upgradation of library facilities and introduction of more newspapers and magazines was also suggested.
Niwas also asked the librarian to hold tests and competitions to improve the reading habits of the students.
The principal was also asked to introduce latest science equipment in laboratories within a month.
The toilets were, however, not in good condition. The new block of toilets which was renovated recently was lying locked as the school claimed that it had not been handed over to them by the Engineering department.
The principal complained about the low height of boundary wall which made the campus accessible to anti-social elements. Niwas directed officials of the Engineering department to erect barbed wire fencing on the wall. Weekly inspection of all rooms and appointment of an additional sweeper on contract basis was recommended.
During his interaction with the teachers, the Home Secretary asked them to hold interactive sessions rather than a monologue and also organise special classes for weak students.
