Himachal Pradesh cabinet gave its nod to the state department of rural development and panchayati raj to begin Socio-Economic and Caste Census in two phases,between October 12 to November 17 in tribal areas and between November 14 to 19 in other parts of the state.

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Saturday gave its nod to the state department of rural development and panchayati raj to begin Socio-Economic and Caste Census in two phases between October 12 to November 17 in tribal areas and between November 14 to 19 in other parts of the state. The caste census will also identify Below Poverty Line (BPL) families after door-to-door enumeration is undertaken.

The drive will be conducted with the help of trained enumerators,who will carry devices to feed data relating to the familys income,caste and religion ,said S K V S Negi,Principal Secretary (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj). This is going to be a foolproof method to ascertain the number of BPL families, he added.

Other decisions

* The cabinet abolished Himachal Pradesh Board of School Examinations of plus one examination,The same will be conducted by the department of education at its own level.

* Transfer of operation of 2,322 rural water supply schemes to local panchayats,which have been authorised to engage Jal Rakshaks (water guards) for regular supply of water and operational tasks.

* Cabinet decided to renew the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for next three years from March 1,2012 to February 28,2015 .

* It granted approval to the signing of a MoU between tourism and civil aviation department and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation to provide quality catering services in the newly-opened tourist information centres in Shimla,Solan and Nahan

* Approval to amendment in the Himachal Pradesh River Rafting Rules-2005 to adopt new Himachal Pradesh River Rafting (Amendment) Rules-2011 and open Lahaul and Spiti area for river rafting water sports.

* Construction of bus stands at Parwanoo,Hamirpur and Una.
