High miscarriage rate,no facility to address problem in region

Accord to national figures,single miscarriage is seen in 20 percent of the expecting mothers,said Dr Preeti Jindal ,MD,DNB,MRCOG (UK),a recurrent miscarriage specialist,who has also served as a senior fellow at the world renowned Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic Saint Mary’s Hospital London,while addressing the media here.

“Two consecutive miscarriages are suffered by 5 per cent of the expecting mothers and three consecutive miscarriages are seen in one percent of the expecting mothers and repeated miscarriages is what we call recurrent miscarriage,” Jindal said.

The main reasons for recurrent miscarriages,according to the doctor, are genetic abnormalities. Smoking,alcohol intake,drugs,are also among major contributors to miscarriage. In the region,a first recurrent miscarriage clinic will being inaugurated at Max Hospital,Mohali on March 19.
