HC sets up panel to monitor legal aid

To ensure that no poor litigant,due to lack of money,goes unrepresented in a Court,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has decided to monitor the functioning of the legal services rendered to the poor litigants.

To ensure that no poor litigant,due to lack of money,goes unrepresented in a Court,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has decided to monitor the functioning of the legal services rendered to the poor litigants.

On a decision taken on the administrative side by the acting Chief Justice AK Goel,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has constituted a monitoring committee comprising three members. The Committee will be headed by Justice SK Mittal who has been made chairman. The other two members are: Tarsem Mangla,Additional District and Sessions Judge. He has been made the member secretary. Noted lawyer,senior advocate RS Cheema has been appointed as the member of the committee. “The Committee will ensure that no litigant is made to suffer due to absence of a lawyer,” said a senior High Court official.
