Justice Permod Kohli has directed the University to ensure compliance of Supreme Court directives for University elections, which have been laid down as guidelines by the Lyngdoh Committee.

The High Court questioned the petitioner on why Dr R C Sobti and Naval Kishore were made parties by name, instead of being mentioned in their official capacity. In response, the petitioner submitted that he will amend the petition.

The petitioner had alleged large scale violation of the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations with regard to poll campaign.

“The University has failed to take action against parties flouting the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations. Students are spending beyond the permissible limits and are also using printed material like posters, banners and stickers,” reads the petition.

After Justice Kohli asserted that the elections will not be stayed, the petitioner requested the Court to order that the final result of the elections be subject to the outcome of the present petition. This request was also turned down.

Representing the University, senior standing counsel for UT Administration advocate Anupam Gupta assured that the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee will be strictly adhered to.
