HC adjourns hearing on Virbhadra petition for Dec 23

Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday heard the petition filed by Union Minister for micro,small & medium enterprises Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh seeking quashing of corruption FIR filed against them by the state’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2008.

Virbhadra Singh and his wife are facing trial in the case but they have approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR or transferring the investigation into the case to the CBI. The Union Minister has also pleaded for staying the trial court proceedings in the case.

The corruption case is registered on the basis of a CD purported to contain the voices of Virbhadra Singh and Pratibha Singh.

The division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice VK Ahuja posted the matter for December 23 for further arguments on the joint request of the parties,while the matter is already posted for next hearing before the trial court for December 5.

The case relates to an audio CD released by former minister Major (Rtd) Vijay Singh Mankotia in a press conference at Dharamshala on May 28,2007 levelling charges of corruption against Virbhadra Singh-who was then the chief minister.

Virbhadra Singh earlier had also filed two separate petitions in the High Court but they were dismissed.
