Cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who was in the city for the fourth ODI match between India and Australia at Mohali on Monday, was served court summons in his room in Hotel Taj.

A city-based human rights organisation,Global Human Rights Council, had filed a civil suit last year for restraining Harbhajan, actress Mona Singh and Colors channel from participating in any kind of show which hurts religious sentiments.

A criminal case was also filed by the organisation which was earlier quashed by the court, giving relief to Harbhajan.

The off-spinner was handed over the summons in the presence of the team manager, two DSP rank officials of the Chandigarh Police and a court official.

NGO president Arvind Thakur said: “The cricketer and Mona Singh had danced as mythological characters Sita and Ravana during a reality show on Colors channel, hurting the religious sentiments. We had, therefore, filed the cases.”

He added that he met Harbhajan in his hotel room in the morning and served the summons to him.

“Harbhajan assured that he would cooperate with us and said that if he was in the country at the time of the court hearing and not occupied elsewhere,he would appear before the court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Palwinderjit Kaur on December 9,which is the next date for hearing,” Thakur said.
