Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. (Source: Wikimedia Commons)The local MLAs from Ludhiana along with deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain held a meeting Sunday on route plan for the grand Nagar Kirtan, being organized by the Punjab government to mark the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The 350th martyrdom day (Shaheedi Divas) of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, falls on November 24.
During the meeting, the MLAs said that one of the four grand Nagar Kirtans will commence from Faridkot on November 20, pass through Ferozepur and Moga before reaching Ludhiana the same day.
In Ludhiana district, the Nagar Kirtan will pass through significant landmarks, including Gurdwara Nanaksar Jagraon and Mullanpur Dakha.
According to the finalized route, the Nagar Kirtan will enter Ludhiana via Baddowal, proceed towards Westend Mall, Lodhi Club Road, BRS Nagar (H Block), Orient Cinema, BRS Nagar (E and D Blocks), Sarabha Nagar, Guru Nanak Public School, Malhar Road, Aarti Chowk, Bhai Wala Chowk, Bharat Nagar Chowk, and Durga Mata Mandir, before concluding at Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib for the night.
On the morning of November 21, the Nagar Kirtan will resume from Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, proceed towards the Railway Station, Clock Tower Chowk, Jalandhar Bypass, Basti Jodhewal, Samrala Chowk, Oswal Cancer Hospital, and Sherpur, before moving towards Sahnewal.
The MLAs and DC emphasised that the Nagar Kirtan will be conducted with utmost reverence, embodying the values of communal harmony, peace, brotherhood, compassion, and humanity as preached by Guru Tegh Bahadur.
These teachings will also be vividly showcased through state-of-the-art light and sound shows which will be held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
A ceremonial guard of honor will also be accorded to the Nagar Kirtan as it enters Jagraon, Ludhiana city, and Khanna. To ensure a smooth and dignified procession, they directed that the roads along the route be thoroughly cleaned and carpeted for the convenience of participants.
The special invitations to village panchayats, all organizations, trade bodies, and religious institutions, including temples, gurudwaras, mosques and others, will be sent to foster widespread participation.
Additionally, designated locations for Langar points were also discussed with strict adherence to traditional Maryada (Sikh code of conduct) during all events.
To maintain the sanctity of the occasion, all liquor, tobacco, and cigarette shops along the route will remain closed during the Nagar Kirtan.
They encouraged all officers to perform their duties with unwavering dedication and selfless service (sewa).
